Youth Service

The Rotary Club of Brantford's second major service outlet has traditionally been directed toward local youth. The club founded the Boys' and Girls' Club of Brantford in 1969 and was instrumental in the fund raising for their present building, the "Rotary Centre" on Edge Street. The club is still involved in funding the Boys' and Girls' Club through members' participation in a weekly bingo and "Nevada" draw tickets which contributes approximately $40,000 each year.

The club's youth service is also directed at Rotary programs such as District 7090's Rotary Youth Leadership Assembly (RYLA), a week long, residential, leadership development program for young people 18 to 24 years of age; and Adventure in Citizenship, a project of the Rotary Club of Ottawa where students between 16 and 19 years visit Ottawa for five days, attend parliament and meet political leaders, government officials and other students from across Canada.

The club also gives financial support to local youth services such as Junior Achievement, St. John's Drum Corp, YM-YMCA, Salvation Army Camp Selkirk, Participation House, and others. We have donated each year to D.A.R.E., "Drug Abuse Resistance Education".

In the past our club donated to "The Ontario Student Opportunities Trust Fund". Our Club recognizes the needs of young people attending post-secondary training in order to give them a kick-start for future successes. Through this Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology can continuously offer bursaries for Brantford students demonstrating economic hardship.
